What inspired Jose to write was his passion for learning, from a very early age he received many accolades for his writing talent. His mother Laura Garcia made sure he was a well rounded kid. What inspired Jose to write was his passion for learning, from a very early age he received many accolades for his writing talent. His mother Laura Garcia made sure he was a well rounded kid. From completing his first communion to being involved in after school programs.  The book "focus",  his mother published in 2015 includes some of Jose's most prominent writings. 


My wish is to create a museum in honor of my son, and all past giant contributors of Puerto Rican culture, history, and who have made a footprint in the city of Hartford. Since my family arrived here in Hartford in 1945. The Garcia family, my family supported Maria Sanchez. 


Joe  has inspired me to help others, and I hope to continue to do so  in his honor.

Jose. A. Villegas Jr. was born in Springfield, MA in Baystate Hospital on May 18, 1973. He lived in Caguas, Puerto Rico in the Bairoa section where he began his studies at the Turabo University. Jose continued his studies at Baran Institute and Capital Community College in Connecticut. During his time in Bairoa, he played basketball. I La

Jose continued his studies at Baran Institute and Capital Community College in Connecticut. During his time in Bairoa, he played basketball. I Laura Garcia, created this website to honor my son Jose A. Villegas who passed away on October 31, 2014. I hope I can inspire others to follow their dreams just as my son Jose did.  Jose Jr. earned a total of 67 awards before his death.

Every year Laura organizes events in honor of her son Jose. Some of the activities and events in Jose's memory have been participation in Hartford's Puerto Rican parade, organized dinners, and most recently a book fest event at the local library.
